TALISAY City policemen found themselves in a high-speed chase Tuesday night as they pursued Joavan Fernandez following reports that he “abducted” two young girls last Monday.

But while the girls practically cleared Joavan of the allegations, the mayor’s son is still not off the hook.

Joavan, the girls and a male companion allegedly used a City Hall-owned motor boat for a “joyride” off Canton Beach in Barangay Cansojong last Tuesday afternoon.

Fishermen Sea and Ecological Care (Fiseca) chairman Gregorio dela Torre confirmed this, adding that the group had dinner together at the beach before heading home aboard a green Pajero.

Fiseca operates under the office of Mayor Fernandez.

Now here's a very interesting line I've read from the report, "Who am I to refuse the mayor’s son?”, said dela Torre.

So this line basically gives us the idea as to how and why this abusive adopted parasite of Mayor Soc keeps on doing what he has been doing. People are either scared or doesn't even care about the trouble that it brings. I'm smelling something fishy here, is it just me or some others feel the same way too?

Raps filed vs. Joavan’s gang

Charges for serious illegal detention were filed yesterday in court against the friends of Joavan Fernandez who were accused of kidnapping and beating up two vulcanizing shop workers in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City last week.

Although the five accused —two of them minors— allegedly acted upon the orders of Fernandez, the latter was not included in the indictment for two counts of serious illegal detention.

Talisay City prosecutor Marshall Rubia stated in the information of the cases against Benideck Gabasa, Mark Perez, Teodoro Ligaray and the two minors that Joavan will be prosecuted separately as soon as he is arrested.

But without a case against Fernandez there can never be a warrant of arrest issued against him.

Cousins Winston and Osbert Abellana, who worked in a vulcanizing shop in barangay Tabunok, claimed that the five accused together with Joavan threatened to shoot them if they will not come with them to Joavan’s house.

After they arrived there Joavan and the five accused took turns mauling them while they were tied up until they fell unconscious.

The victims were rescued by the police an hour after they were abducted. Joavan escaped during the rescue but the five accused were arrested.

The prosecutor’s office did not recommend bail for the temporary liberty of the five accused.

Meanwhile, Cebu first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas asked Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez to send his son Joavan to a rehabilitation center to calm the fears of Talisaynons after he called the mayor to his office yesterday.

Gullas said that as a father he understands the feelings of Fernandez, but the mayor is not only the father of Joavan but also the father of Talisay City.

He said Fernandez should let the authorities take care Joavan’s cases because it is already filed in the court. Gullas said with Joavan in rehabilitation Talisaynons will have nothing to fear and Fernandez will have peace of mind.

Gullas also asked Cebu Provincial Police director Sr. Supt. Carmelo Valmoria to monitor the situation in Talisay City and asked Talisay police chief Supt. Romeo Perigo to come to his office on Wednesday afternoon to talk on issues about the city’s security. — Fred P. Languido and Brenda D. Batuto/BRP
