Do you guys know where we can find old cebuano movies... Is it still archived?
My interest got piqued after having learned that my grandfather starred in one of those old films. I hope somebody can point me to the right direction.

Darknite,
Mowelfund archivists Nick Deocampo and Co claim that the Cebuano cinema is now lost. They even had recently an anthology called "The Lost Cinema of Cebuano/Visayans" in which they included in the annotation of the small book the efforts of Blongkoy here as leading the "70s indie pack".
The last film found is Leroy Salvador's "Badlis sa Kinabuhi" --- all restored in an Australian laboratory but without the soundtrack. The Arong Brothers' "Manok ni San Pedro" is unviewable; and Gene Labella's "Mayor Andal" is nowhere to be found despite its being one of the most recent releases.
I do not claim here to be a "walking encyclopaedia" on Cebuano/Visayan films. But, frankly, if you could tell me your grandfather's name and film, I might yet be able to lead you to one copy of that film somewhere; or I might yet be able to discuss here some of the other films he starred in.
There.
(PS --- I am filming right now "Inday, Paabuta Ako sa Langit" for the "Gift of God" Productions; if you want to relive the movie days of your grandfather, you may PM me to watch its making.)
If I remember it correctly, the film was "Hukmanan Dinhi sa Yuta". I don't have any idea of when it was filmed but probably 1959, +/ - 5 yrs. I believe his screenname was Alex Long.
Frankly, right now, I do not have the luxury of time and better PC with which I could refresh my memory on the film you mentioned.
But I have a faint idea of it --- similar to what I saw in the collection of then FEU president Dr. Santos. I now would like to go back to it and learn more.
In the meantime, I will be at UP in Cebu on October 7, between 9:00 A.M. and 12:00 midday, to respond to a conference on documentary filmmaking in the Philippines. Perhaps, we can see each other there and discuss things around some hazy references to "Hukmanan Dinhi sa Yuta." Together we may yet find the art of your grandfather.
ok.. thanks for the heads up.
