it is time to think seriously about price controls.. although the oil giants clearly do not have complete control over gas prices, they do have the ability to set prices above competitive rates.. why should industry regulate the market instead of democratic government authorities? if only our government could act at breaking up monopolistic and oligopolistic corporations..

What is the point of the government to take over? to sustain and cover up the high cost of oil? Yes that can be done but for how long? I don't think the government will be able to do that long term. Regarding the "monopoly" in the oil industry.. can you prove that? maybe you are convince because oil companies here increases thier prices almost at the same time and almost the same... because the prices are diven with the world market.. if the cost per barrel will go as high as $70 a barrel not any single oil corporation here can control that.. what they do to survive is to increase the operating cost like importing those oil here and continue to distribute them all over the country. I do beleive that there are abundant supply of natural resource here in the PHils.. ang blema lang nato wala tay balaud to encourage foreign direct investments to explore, research oil components.. ug naa tay refinery dre barato ang operating cost sa atong oil companies nya ang government maka generate ug income if mag export ta.. dako kaayo ug possibility ni.. the department of energy should consider this option in effect mas affordable atong oil compares to other countries maski karon mas barato pa man atong oil dre campared sa US.. example here you can buy lets say P34/liter in the US the price is $1.80+/liter = P100/liter halos 3/4 atong price dre.

not necessarily. that's why we have price monitoring committee to check if there are those who would take advantage or make lame excuses to consumers.

with regard to basic commodities and what seems to be in demand with consumers (e.g. sardines and other canned goods), the repackaging for these products into foil packs will maintain its affordability.
