BAGUIO VICTORY FACE-OFF WITH ILOILO MANG INASALS
Posted August 3rd, 2008 by liga
BAGUIO CITY – The host Baguio Victory advanced to their second leg final in Week 7 of the Liga Pilipinas Tour elimination phase Saturday by plastering the Zamboanga Amores, 112-71, at the University of Baguio gym here.
The Victory will face the winner of the semifinal match between the Iloilo Mang Inasals and the Lipa-Batangas Bulls which was ongoing at press time.
Though attuned with the chilly climate in the City of Pines, the Victory proved equally comfortable in higher temperatures, heating up the venue by draining 12 of 22 three-point shots (55 percent).
Local boy Edvert Ton buried seven triples in leading Baguio with 32 points as the Victory reached their second championship game since Week I in Misamis Oriental where they lost to the Pagadian Explorers.
Over at Laguna, the host Stallions routed the Ilocos Sur Bravehearts, 84-69, and booked a first-ever finals berth at the Trace College gym.
Laguna outscored Ilocos Sur, 33-15, in the third quarter to break the game open.
The Stallions will take on the winner of the Pampanga-Tagaytay-Cavite semifinal.
The top four outright quarterfinalists will be determined via the aggregate Tour points, with the next eight teams falling into the wildcard stage which will decide the pairings in the eight-team playoffs.

'Liga' enters wild card phase
BEAT the Baguio Victory, Lipa-Batangas Bulls, Misamis Oriental Meteors, and Laguna Trace Stallions in their respective homecourts.
Twice.
That’s the task facing four wildcard entries in the 2008 Liga Pilipinas starting Aug. 11 when the playoffs begin at separate venues.
Baguio hosts the Iloilo Mang Inasals at University of Baguio, Lipa-Batangas welcomes the Quezon Red Oilers at Lipa Cultural, Misamis rolls out the red carpet for the Ilocos Sur Bravehearts at Xavier University, and Laguna gets the drum-and-bugle band playing for the Tagaytay-Cavite Heroes at Trace College.
By virtue of their 5th to 8th rankings after the 13-leg, seven-week Liga Tour elimination, Baguio, Lipa-Batangas, Misamis Oriental, and Laguna hold twice-to-beat advantage in the wildcard tourney.
Winners of the knockout phase move up to the quarterfinal round where the Cebu Ninos, Pagadian Explorers, Taguig Batang Global, and Pampanga Buddies enjoy homecourt edge.
In the best-of-five series, Cebu will take on the winner of the Laguna-Tagaytay/Cavite matchup, Pagadian faces the victor between Misamis Oriental and Ilocos Sur, Taguig battles the team that emerges from the Baguio-Iloilo joust, and Pampanga duels with either Lipa or Quezon.
The semifinals and the championship series are both best-of-five affairs.
At the conclusion of the elimination round, Cebu (49 points) won all four circuits, Pagadian (36) and Taguig (35) had two first place finishes while Pampanga (33) won once, as with Lipa-Batagas (25), Baguio (23), Laguna (20), and Quezon (14).
Rounding out the Tour points finishes are: Misamis Oriental (20), Tagaytay-Cavite (19), Ilocos Sur (17), Iloilo (16), and Zamboanga (5).
