Just to paint a brighter picture of the IT field in Cebu, there are actually other more interesting options aside from call center positions, and other mundane IT-related jobs, with salary options that are competitive or even better compared with other companies.

We at Avatrian (Avatrian: Home) have IT-related jobs like no other, due to cutting edge, "next-generation web" nature. Take our content creator position. A content creator is a multi-disciplinary IT position that specializes in multimedia content (i.e. web design, 3D graphics, audio/video editing) creation for virtual worlds. Our content creator positions start at 15k a month (w/o experience) and 22k a month (w/ experience). We also have Content Scripter jobs that are for programmers, which also has the same rates. Even if you don't intend to stay on long in the company, your exposure to various areas of Web 2.0/3.0, and Virtual Worlds will be valuable in the coming years, as the internet evolves.

Granted, one has to have interest in the future web, 3D-internet, and virtual worlds (particularly Second Life) and have passion and dedication and skill in what they create and do, to get admitted into our company. We at Avatrian are trying to show that the IT field in Cebu City is not as bleak as some people paint it to be.

Yep, but we cater to more creative people who want to see their talents flourish in a "frontier" internet environment, and perhaps help their own career path--my point is, daghan kaayo diha naa unta'y talent, pero are forced not to exploit/rely on their talents and just be "practical" and get a simple, mundane IT job. It's time for talent to shine, and let these people earn from their talent.
