CEBU CITY – The M. Lhuillier-Cebu Ninos survived a big scare from the Smart-Pampanga Buddies, 82-73, in the final preliminary round game of the ML Kwarta Padala Liga Pilipinas Cebu Leg Friday (July 1
before a full house at the New Cebu Coliseum.
The Ninos’ defense held the Buddies scoreless for the final 2:24 of the ball game, their last score coming via a Khiel Misa charity, 73-76.
Stephen Padilla then scored on a drive off an assist by the posting Marlon Basco, 80-73, and 1:11 remaining. Basco added two more free throws for the final tally.

Aric del Rosario started strong, taking the first period, 22-8. Suddenly, the Ninos found a savior in Danny Aying who came off the bench and sank two quick triples to turn the momentum in their favor.
Bruce Dacia and Aying then conspired in a 15-6 run to begin the third period, deadlocking the score at 61-61 entering the final period on two Aying free throws with a second left off a foul by Christian Nicdao.
Aying finished with 20 points followed by
Dacia with 16 to keep the Ninos of Michel Lhuillier and Coach Yayoy Alcoseba undefeated in three starts. Larry Rodriguez topped the Buddies with 15 points followed by Misa with 14.

Erwin Genuino and
Coach Nomar Isla relied on a 13-0 final period run to erect a 75-63 advantage with 6:41 to play and put away the Zamboanga Amores of
Coach Ednie *****es, 87-80.
It will be the Ninos versus the Amores and the Buddies testing the Stallions in today’s crucial semifinals at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Center starting at 4:00 PM. Sunday's finale will shift back to the New Cebu Coliseum.
