batman finds joker an anomaly among his mythos because he came out out of nowhere. with no identity nor lead on his past personal history (the Batman knows about all his enemies except Joker), batman can only address what he can observe. Check out Joker's origin in the graphic novel The Killing Joke....
forget the Jack Nicholson Joker in the old Batman movie - it was just an altered adaptation to the comicbook story.
in this movie Joker will be an anarchist who will challenge Batman's rep in Gotham city..... there maybe a hint of an origin story here but probably none for the joker....
thus i think it makes the movie rock.....

A Golden year for comic book movies in 2008.
Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Wanted, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, The Dark Knight, Punisher: War Zone, and The Spirit.
So far the first 5 have great reviews. And The Dark Knight opens tomorrow
