I don't believe that everyone can learn... well maybe learn to a certain extent. But there are those who can't really get a certain pitch or note. Disentonado gyud bisag unsaon.... those who can't hear that they're flat/sharp or way off key.

Perfect pitch CAN be taught and can just as easily be learned. There are a lot of methods.

The easiest way to teach hearing is by playing a melody, then letting the student sing it. Then, when the student gets the melody right, ask the student to play it from memory.

The point of the exercise is teaching the student to "see" music and identify the differences between notes. There are only 12 notes in western music, so I don't think it'll take that long to teach the basics of music.

Music is basically division. Division of pitch frequencies and division of time.

Like I said, melody can be learned by getting a mental picture of each note. There are only 12 notes.

Rhythm, on the other hand, is the division of time into notes.

These are the core concepts of music, and seeing it from a logical, almost-scientific point of view allows one to better understand, and even teach it.

Naa gyuy uban... no matter how long they've been playing music... their being not able to pin down notes limits them to what they can do with their instrument.
There's classes people can take for them to develop this skill.. pero dili man tanan maka afford.

Maybe it's because their approach to music is limited by their lack of desire.

But sometimes, knowing just enough IS enough. The Beatles wrote great music and none of them were even close to Pro level. The important thing is to know more today than you did yesterday.

That applies not only to music but to life.

Naa koy friend na musician... I don't think he lacks the desire since he's been at it as long as I. Pero he's satisfied of what he can do with the bass and the music he does doesn't demand much... pero mao sab lagi, hinay iyang hearing when it comes to pitches/notes..
Ako sang usa ka bass player... this guy is a Sax player.. plays bass and guitar .. and even went to Berklee (roommate ni John Meyer and he also took that class which teaches perfect pitch). Pero mao lang gihapon.. yabag lang gihapon ug pakantahon. Pero if I sing harmonies.. he can tell if I'm doing the 3rd or 5th. He can read and transcibe notes.. he's a damn cum laude from Berklee and even shook David Bowie's hand sa graduation nila.... but YABAG lang gihapon.

I am blessed with perfect pitch and an awful voice. Which makes things doubly painful. I know how bad I really am.

I also have perfect rhythm, but I couldn't dance to save my life.

I can sing.. not beautifully but I'm not yabag either.
