Not currently because of off-shoring and outsourcing. The IT people that are retained in the U.S. right now are the middle to top level positions only. Programming, web design, graphic design, even network security etc. are "off-shored" Networking and systems administration still has a demand though because physical presence is required.

This is just a forum bro, where ideas, facts and objective opinions are presented. No need to be emotional about it.

I am an IT by profession working for a top 100 health care facility in the United Stated based in Chicago. I think I am in a good position to compare facts, if solicited.

On a different note, PT, OT, ST & RT are better than Nursing in terms of opportunities and job duties and responsibility. Why? because they are paid higher for lesser effort with the same demand.

What is the downside of PT, OT, ST & RT?

1] Physical, Occupational, Speech & Respiratory Therapy as more difficult as a course than nursing and the local and board exams abroad are more difficult than the NCLEX.

2] Lesser demand for hospital jobs but very big demand for home visits. The demand is so big that the current number of Therapy Professionals all over the U.S. cannot cope.

3] Job availability is not 24 hours unlike nurses because there are hospices, senior homes, hospitals. So if you are married and wants to work alternately with your spouse so that you will be there for the kids, this is not viable for Therapy Professionals. This is not a downside for me though.

4] Visa processing is relatively difficult but not impossible compared to nursing. As long as there is a willing petitioner you can always get a visa FASTER than a nurse.

In my opinion, after the above facts, I would rather be a Therapy Professional than a nurse.

The demand might have waned but it's still there. The key here is to take up a course nga gusto gyud nimo. If you love what you do, you'll be good at it, and if you're good at your job, there will always be a market for your skills. Money is not everything. We could all drop dead right here, right now.

But if you are really into nursing, don't let news like this deter you from getting what you want.

that is true, that's why most nurses who are fortunate enough to have money and connections in the US go for the H-1B visa instead of the usual EB-3.

why money and connections? because most employers do not want to deviate the usual EB-3 processing anymore and go through staffing agencies. the advantage of the H temporary worker's visa is the processing is faster. the downside is more money out of your pocket initially, more credentials and experience needed since it has to be proved that you belong to a specialty occupation, you will be subjected to electronic raffle and lower visa cap and you will spend again for the processing of your green card.
