I once played a cleric PC in an unfinished, modified 2nd ed. D&D adventure that was gamemastered by a former co-employee of mine some three years ago. He used to play it in high school. It was unfinished because one of the players (also a fellow former co-employee of ours) was pressured by his then girlfriend to desist from playing RPGs as these games were Satanic. What disappointed me the most was that this quitter was not only my former high school classmate of two years but (most importantly) played in some of the RPG adventures that I gamemastered back then-- and he played his PC cunningly. In fact, he even carved a wooden miniature of his PC out of his passion for RPGs. Anyway, when he announced his decision to quit, I was reminded of one of the favorite pastimes that he and his anti-RPG girlfriend shared that he himself related to me: playing Blizzard Entertainment's "Diablo" PC RPG games. In fact, this girlfriend loved the Necromancer so much she played it almost all the time. He loved his girlfriend, so I chose not to question his decision.
Anyway, the very first book on RPG that I bought was D&D-compatible-- Mayfair Games's Role-Aids: Wizards. It was the summer of 1990 and I've just graduated from elementary. Because the first edition boxed sets were so expensive (well, these products still are, hehehe), I gamemastered most of the Role-Aids: Wizards adventures on a RPG system of my own design-- that I extrapolated from the said book and all those D&D advertisements in the pages of all the comic-books in my collection --back in high school. It was an insane system, to be honest, but we had fun. Those were the most joyful and unforgettable times of my high school life and existence.
