I shot my very first wedding with no cost at all to the couple, just a free meal. I even spent around $200 for the wedding.. but the greatest things they gave in return.. was they were so happy with the photos... and gave me 4 weddings by referrals.. all couples took my basic wedding package + wedding proof DVD (no albums.. just proofs) valued at $3000.

Joe Buissink, one of the best wedding photographer in the world started the same way I did and so as every known wedding photographers here in the US.

And you don't choose whom to shoot.
Ian, good input. But in this case, they already have a photographer (which maybe someone they don't trust?). Different story. And pranix even asked for a PORTFOLIO from the possible volunteers. Free, with photographer's expenses, portfolio, someone who they don't know and most of all... wait til you get chosen... Only the best will survive? Its like American Idol without Ryan Seacrest, 3 famous judges and worldwide exposure... oh without TV too.

Pranix, my suggestion. Get a photographer friend/relative instead. Maybe a boyfriend of your cousin or something. If you think you are helping newbie photographers for their portfolio... why not help your cousin/friend instead?

As agoroy stated, this is not a win-win situation. Referral? hehehe... hehehe... hehehe... Have a nice day everybody!

Seems to me that Pranix is trying to get the best of both worlds for his wedding. Extra wedding pics for FREE?! forget it, no newbie is that excited to get pictures just for a free meal, unless of course if your that prominent. otherwise, Thanks but no thanks!

yeah but what made me raise eyebrows was the fact that his asking for portfolio from who ever volunteers to do it for FREE at photogs expense in fact(every shutter click is money naay lifespan ang camera...transpo is money grabi na kamahal ang gasolina, etc)...those who would do this for free na dili kaila nila would most probably be in it for experience or for practice so that they can make their folio kay mga newbies lagi...so unsa man folio ilang mapakita hehehe. i dont know if im making any sense to you guyz...but goodluck

DITTO. Newbies (like me) are not that desperate. We have alot of subjects to shoot. Not just weddings.

i guess it's cool, pero your hired photographer should know. sometimes, this is even better coz makasabot mo daan who will be taking the sidelights, the close-ups, etc. samok na ang mag inilogay ug pwesto, that's for sure. for the rare and accomplished photographer who shoots because it is simply his passion, aw, he would welcome anybody who wants to shoot with him, methinks. the celebration of love is something that is almost impossible to capture in one image - might as well have a second gun to be sure, di ba? i guess to each his own. congrats daan sa imo kasal nix.

i have to pay for taxi to go to his place or wherever just to meet them(couple).

i have to spend cellphone load just to call them or even text them.

i might offend the official photographer leaving a bad taste on his mouth.

    etc..

if i want to learn wedding photography, i would rather approached a wedding photographer to be his assistant(tigbitbit battery, bags, lighstands ..etc) and from there i might learn something from the pro i wish to emulate.

if i'm couple's friend.. definitely i will bring my camera if i'm invited .. and shoots few frames for them.

that's my half-kilo NFA rice takes on this subject.

YUP!! SAKTO. Ngano free gud tawn? If you can afford a wedding ceremony then u can afford a wedding photog.

This is kind of insulting because photographers have to pay for their equipment.. not to mention very expensive equipment and u want a free shoot?

Free ang pagpalit nimo sa cam? Free imo time? KAON? lols. sorry for sounding like an asshole but im just speaking my mind

common DSLRs like 450D/D60 are rated @ 50000 clicks and at a 35,000 pesos base price

so every shutter click is estimated @ 1.5 peso multiplied by 200 to 500 clicks for that wedding event - do the math

my point is, I rather eat value meals at Jollibee and read some wedding photography books

ohh well... thanks for the inputs guys.. sorry for those offended.
anyway portfolio ako gipasabot is something like a multiply.com website.
siguro if ever naay mo volunteer, mga sidelights ang kuha siguro.
mga candid shots sa guests & entourage.
coz for sure ang official photographer will be busy with the couple.

bro, pre-nup shot nalang mi mga photogs, I'm sure there will be a lot of us interested to do this for practice. not your wedding day lang cguro based on the comments of the photogs. but cguro if where not that busy and would like a free meal maybe some of us will take the chance to photograph the sidelites of your wedding. just my thoughts
