Default How are your lungs today (a friendly reminder to smokers perpetual thread)?

After I read this thread over at General Discussion about banning smoking, an idea buzzed in my head and I thought of creating this thread.

Now, before we begin, please understand that I do not hate smokers--I have a lot of friends who smoke, and I was a smoker myself (but I've been smoke-free for over 11 years now, I managed to quit in 1997), so I'd be a hypocrite if I told you I didn't enjoy the times when I was a smoker, because I have to admit that I did.

So as you can see, this thread doesn't hate smokers--in fact it wants to support them, if...if, they want to quit, but they can't find a reason to do so.

If you have a loved one or a friend who is a smoker, and you yourself hate cigarettes, then join me in this very simple campaign. So what are the rules? The rules are simple:

    1. Every day, check this thread, and add to it. What to add?

    2. Links to articles related to smoking and lung disease and lung cancer. You can also post a testimonial if you are a smoker who stopped smoking, citing benefits and what happened after you stopped smoking.

    3. Now this is the juicy part. Post photos of lung disease and lung cancer photos. The more and more detailed, the better. And, as a caption, after you post a URL or photo, ask the thread "(Today's Date), How are your lungs today?"

I shall now start the thread by posting this:

June 28, 2008: How Are Your Lungs Today?

My friend, stop smoking before it's too late.

Gross pathology of lung showing centrilobular emphysema characteristic of smoking. Closeup of fixed, cut surface shows multiple cavities lined by heavy black carbon deposits.

    Here's a link:

    Smokers' Lungs

I'm not a smoker and I really hate smoking. My father was once a smoker, chain smoker for that matter, and he was doing it for about 25 years. He just found out 2 years ago that his blood pressure was so high and got no symptoms of any ailments except that he's got hard time in catching his breath at times.

The doctor's simple line: "You've been enjoying smoking for 25 years, if you still want to enjoy life, quit smoking."

Now my father no longer smokes and is very active in sports. Quitting is so hard daw but it's all worth it. Lahi ra gyud kaayo kung smoker ug dili. So my advice to smokers is that develop the guts to stop smoking at least for once and see the difference.

Nice one Piolo. And I thought up of something based on what you said. Here's food for thought:

I think admitting to being a coward, is a brave act.

Sergeant to Private, as they approach the front lines: "You scared son?", private replies, "Yessir, sorry, sir!" Sergeant says "Don't be sorry boy, that makes two of us. Fear keeps us alert, awake, alive. Feed on it."

I guess guys feel gutsy and girls feel cool when they smoke. However, in my belief, it takes a whole new level of guts and coolness to stop smoking.
