kita na ko sa newspaper sa picture pero has anybody seen the plans for the megadome?

unsaon gyud intawn pag-sagol sagol nila sa use? sports arena and performing arts and kung unsa-unsa pa.

in other countries they usually have separate (but sometimes within the same complex) venues for theatre, concerts, etc..

is this just going to be like cebu coliseum or araneta coliseum?

Megadome to put City in world map

MORE than any other place in Cebu Province, Mandaue City stands to gain distinction with the proposed Cebu megadome.

Mandaue City consultant for historical affairs Tonette Pañares said that together with the City’s annual Mantawi Festival, the megadome will place Mandaue in the world map of culture and the arts.

The megadome design competition was won by a Cebuano architect, Alexius Medalla of Guadalupe, Cebu City (not Mandaue City as reported earlier).

Elated over Medalla’s success, Pañares recalled how she and the architect discussed the historical and cultural aspects of the design prior to the finals.

Medalla wanted to incorporate Cebu’s history and culture into his design, so her background on the subject came in handy, Pañares, former curator of the Southwestern University Museum, said.

“I share in his success. All Cebuanos should share in his success,” Pañares said.
Medalla competed with other architects, some of whom came from Manila.

Of his design, the 39-year-old Medalla said it is a showcase of Cebuano history and the strength of the Cebuano people. The spinning disc design represents the Cebuano and his “aspirations and dynamism.”

The design is abstract and incorporates several symbols of how the designer sees the Cebuano. It will also feature a mural called “history wrap” to be painted around the walls of the building as a “historical presentation of Cebu.”

Medalla will get at least P12.5 million in consultancy fees, representing five percent of P250 million, the projected total project cost.

Groundbreaking is scheduled in October this year.

A judge in the competition said the structure will grow on the Cebuanos the way the Eiffel Tower did on Parisians and the French.

The design paid attention to life safety and emergency mass evacuation and will most likely stay within the P250-million budget.

Medalla, a graduate of the University of San Carlos, placed ninth in the board examinations for architecture in 1987.

He worked for nine years in Hong Kong before he returned here and set up his own firm in 2000.
