Default XP Out of memory on 2GB?

    Hi,

nakasuway namo ani na hitaboa? I have 2GB of ram on my workstation. I have Mozilla and IE running with multiple tabs. I have eclipse, yahoo and an antivirus present (in short, daghan windows open). However, after prolonged use (I don't turn off my PC for a week), my PC eventually exhibits behavior that it's running out of memory. Apps fail to load, open apps no longer display/render properly on screen and button clicks no longer respond (like right clicking on something no menu pops out or the menu is blank). These can be remedied by closing some apps but this still doesn't explain why my PC runs out of RAM. During the time when it behaves to be out of memory, taskmanager shows 1.3GB free RAM! Oh, did i forget to mention that taskmanager sometimes doesn't even load when this happens!

I admit kusog ko mo malmal ug PC usage but 1GB+ of free ram and it's complaining it doesn't have enough? C'mon!

check virtual memory setting. if its set too low, windows will give you warning that its low in memory.

by default, windows doesn't load everything in the memory for rarely used application or service that must always be on to conserve memory but pages it in the hard disk. make sure that your virtual memory setting is equivalent to the amount of ram you have in your system.

    goodluck.

@poldpunk: I tried setting it now to 2048 minimum; 4096 max. Still observing.

@jinkaz: I have 100GB of free space from a 160GB hard drive. So let's rule that out.

I think bati ang swap file sa windows kay file-based man gud siya unlike sa linux.

1.) when the issue started windows was handling the swapfile
2.) the pc is a freshly formatted pc issued to me by the company.

poldpunk, so far bai the problem seems to have gone away after increasing virtual ram. however, i believe it may be too soon to say anything meaningful. observe lang sa ko for a week.
