JR Atablanco, a new recruit by the Cebu Niņos is someone we should watch out for....he seems to be good...

Duterte Agilas suffers sixth loss in MVBA

THE Arthro Kontra Arthritis of Cebu proved too much for the Goldstar Hardware-backed Duterte Agilas as it pulled off a 104-91 win over the Dabawenyos in the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) at the New Cebu City Coliseum Friday night.

Arthro, coached by Al Solis, improved to a two-win, three-loss card in the Visayas division while the Agilas remained at the cellar of the Mindanao division with no win in six outings.

Jojo Omandam, who scored six of his nine points in the opening period, with teammates Doroteo Almacin and Jeffrey France combined for 14 points to lift Arthro's 52-40 lead at halftime.

Coach Rhoel Josol's Agilas tried to rally in the final canto as pointguard JR Atablanco exploded with 11 points and Wynsjohn Te added two triples to fuel the Agilas' late surge.

But Arthro's Mark Ababon sank four timely field goals to secure the win for the Cebuano team.

Almacin led scoring for Arthro with 14 while Ababon, Ronald Bucao and Bernie Ursal added 11 points each.

Atablanco topped the Agilas with 15 while Eliazar Berami and Bob Ilanga, added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Arthro will try to beat 6-1 Cebu Landmaster-Mandaue anew when both teams clash for the second time in the conference on Monday at the Cebu Coliseum. Arthro beat Landmaster, 93-81, on September 24.

    The boxscores:
    ARTHRO-CEBU 104 - Almacin 14, Bucao 11, Ursal 11, Ababon 11, Cainglet 10, Omandam 9, Gadiane 8, Gabas 8, Garcia 8, France 7, Mercado 7.

    DUTERTE AGILAS 91 - Atablanco 15, Berami 14, Ilanga 13, Sagad 10, Delica 9, Te 8, Delfin 8, Gonzaga 7, Tamayo 4, Cabili 3, Bajenting 0, Mejorada 0.
