Sony: PSP sales are doing better than we planned
Speaking to a trade magazine, the new boss of Sony's WorldWide Studios has revealed that the PSP hardware sales are doing better than they planned for. He went on to say the platform is so unique as is the Wii and DS and hopes that more and more third party publishers begin to see the PSP as an attractive opportunity.
quote:
And what about the PSP – what’s your strategy for that?
The PSP hardware sales are doing well – it’s actually doing better than we planned for, there is in fact a big of a shortage on the hardware. But because we are first party we have been focusing on releasing titles developed just for PSP. Many of them do very well from a business standpoint and also get critical acclaim. It’s a key lesson – you cannot develop a game for one platform and try to retrofit it for others. It doesn’t work. You might sell certain numbers, and that may be a good business, but it’s not as good a business if the game is developed for the PSP. And because of all this growth in the industry and new opportunity the first parties have to make the big decisions on resources.
So as a company we have to continue to show what PSP can do and how unique the experiences are on the platform when you develop a game exclusively for that platform. Because there is no direct competitor to the machine, it’s an opportunity. That might be a bit of an issue from a business standpoint, because if there are similar platforms you can plan for multiple SKUs, but Wii, DS and PSP – each is unique so its games need to be focused more.
I hope more and more third-party publishers see the PSP as an attractive opportunity.

PSP (PlayStation Portable) v4.00 Update
I wanted to give you all a heads up that a new PSP system software update, v4.00, will be released soon, adding Google Internet search directly to the XMB (XrossMediaBar) interface.
This new upgrade replicates the Google Internet search experience, delivering the same search results that you’d get at Google. And with a search history recall of 20 items, Web searches couldn’t be easier.
After you download and install the firmware on your PSP, click on the XMB’s Network icon and then the new Internet Search icon. Enter your keywords and then let Google’s algorithms do the work. You’ll need to be connected to the Internet via a wireless access point or Wi-Fi hotspot. Googling something on the go has never been more convenient on your PSP.
Another new feature delivered through the 4.00 update is the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on your Memory Stick PRO Duo, so you can speed through or slow down what you’re watching. To do this simply press the up or down directional buttons while playing a video. Enjoy!
Wow, nice naa na jud google sa psp.. soon
Sony Ericsson has unveiled its new gaming phone. It's not the elusive "PSP phone" that many have been searching for, but it'll suffice for now. The games available on the F305 are going to be incredibly simple, with 2D era graphics. There are PlayStation buttons, but only two: a O and X button. The camera phone will feature "EDGE speeds, a Memory Stick Micro slot, a 2-inch 176 x 220 display and some music playback features."
For us gamers, this phone does nothing to attract us. It's going to take something really big to tug us away from keeping our PSPs in our pants.
Daxter PSP pack is the best outta 'em all
IGN has tried to weight up which PSP bundle is currently the best on the market (North America). After investigating the variety of PSP bundles available, they conclude that the champion is the Daxter Entertainmnet pack. Why? Because it gives you a decent game, funny UMD and enough memory to get the PSP standing on its own two feet.
quote:
Don't get us wrong, there's really not a bad option among the PSP Bundles. If you're ga-ga for pigskin, the Madden Pack might end up being your baby. If you already have a PSP Memory Stick and are just looking to upgrade, the God of War Bundle might float your boat. However, if you're starting from scratch, the Daxter Pack gives you an engaging game, funny UMD, and enough memory to get your PSP on its feet.
Coinciding with the release of PS3 firmware 2.36 is the immediate availability of firmware 4.00 for PSP.
The update can now be downloaded from Network Update and as promised, includes two new main features. Namely, the ability to search Google without the need of launching the PSP’s often slow Internet Browser and change the viewing speed of video played on the PSP by pressing up or down on the directional pad. Personally, we were expecting a little more from a X.00 update, but it is what it is. For the complete changelog, hit the break.
