Default how to plant HC and Glosso

hi, im setting up a 3feet freshwater planted tank.
Im kind of thinking between glosso and HC as carpet but don't know their requirements.
I also don't know how to plant them. Do i need any special tools?

    Do they need high light?
How fast do they grow? and how often do i need to prune them.
Im kind of looking for a low maintenance setup (especially in terms of pruning and care)

I would appreciate your help guys.
Also i would appreciate suggestions for which tall plants are good to mix with these for the background.

I kind of prefer the plants with fine leaves or stems... not the big ones=)

Hmm. From what ive read HC and glosso are both high light plants. Ive very limited experience with both though.

What type of lighting are you using BTW?

i dont have the light fixture yet... thats why im asking to know which type i should buy.
or if they thrive in low light, ill just use a 20W fluorescent.

dont know how to plant it too... some say it should be planted inclined against the substrate?

In my own experience with Glosso and HC, they are both highlight plants around 3 WPG will do . Though Glosso also needs High CO2. In planting them you need tweezers to do it. No need in pruning them Unless they grow vertically. For the background you I suggest pearl weeds.

If you want to know some more plants better consult our plant expert markykoi (nyahahahahah sorry marky peace!)

i think one 20 watt is barely enough for low light mosses.
Aim for at least 2.5 watts (??) per gallon of fluorescent lighting. The watt per gallon rule is already obsolete but it should give you a rough estimate on how many bulbs you'll need.

I read somewhere and i think it was posted here re. the right way to plant HC. I just couldnt find it anywhere. It involves burying the HC stem all the way into the substrate using a tweezer with only a small portion of the plant exposed. This will make the plant root quite well and be saved from uprooting.

you can also grow it out of the water to give them a headstart.
theres a topic here but there are a lot of others on the net.

what are your views in choosing between hc and glosso guys?
soggy2, thanks for the very informative site=)

svmx, no need to prune both plants? i thought glosso needs a lot of pruning? how do you do that?

by the way, svmx, is pearl weed Hemianthus micranthemoides?
    diba relative na sa HC?

    @general
My glosso didn't spread really well on my tank so I didn't got the chance to prune it ehehehehe. For the pearl weed I really don't know if it is a relative of HC.

For hc you need to plant it slightly slanting coz tendency if pavertical it easily gets uprooted dont worry if gamay na lng leaves makita coz mutubo ra na. I use forceps in planting and with regards to ur lighting 20w is not enough.. Sa ako nano tank I use GE nga spiral which is 12w but the output is 60w. Its up to your preference f u use co2 but for me hc grows best if naa jud and my substrate is just clay. Not so much experience with glosso though hehe
