i think polycystic ovarian syndrome is totally different from ovarian cyst. it has to do w/ the hormones.

i do have polycystic ovaries! i experience amenorrhea every other month.

hi! 6years ago diagnosed ko nga polycystic ang akong ovaries... kina-dugayan nako nga walay period is 3 months... i was told by the OB nga since bata pako ato nga time, give time lang daw kay naa daw chances nga mawala ra sya and she also prescribed some meds... unfortunately, mahal2x ang meds, mga one month ra ko naka-take...

then, 4years later, nag-work ko ug call center, mas-irregular na jud akong period... i had to visit an OB again and she said nga PCOS gihapon ko... which was not a surprise... she recommended some meds again, i forgot the name lang, and true enough ni-abot akong period ato... pero again good for 1 month lang pud ko naka-take instead of monthly siya...

now, i have a healthy 14 month old baby boy... after giving birth, my OB advised me to take birth control pills para family planning... and since dili ganahan akong husband nga mag-take ko ug pills kay hadlok sya sa long-term side effects, wala jud ko nag-take... and since polycystic ghapon ko, haven't gotten pregnant again (Thank God!) i think due to the irregularity of my period. One thing i noticed also with my period, mas irregular cya if ma-stress out ko especially i keep thinking about my quota sa work... So, for those working at call centers or other industries nga more stressful and naay PCOS and you want to have a baby, you have to take care more of yourself coz stress can definitely aggravate your condition...

Many women with PCOS have decreased sensitivity to insulin, and their bodies overcompensate by over-producing insulin. Elevated levels of insulin are common in women with PCOS, whether they are obese or thin compared with weight matched controls. Some experts believe that this excess insulin is the underlying cause of PCOS because insulin stimulates androgen production and effects follicular development. As a consequence, Metformin (oral anti-diabetic drug) combined with Clomid, has been used to treat women with PCOS. The results of the treatment are encouraging. It successively restored regular menstrual cycles and fertility. Insulin sensitizing drugs have not been licensed in the UK for use in non diabetic patients. Metformin should not be used when kidney function is abnormal. Further research is needed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and long term effects.
