THE TOURING PHASE
The 14 participating teams will play in a series of mini tournaments, in the process earning tour points in the standings. There will be two simultaneous mini-tournaments to be held every week with four teams playing in each tournament. Six teams will draw a bye for the same week.
Each team will get to play in four mini tournaments, hosting one while playing in three other tournaments on the road. The team assignments have been predetermined by Liga Pilipinas before the start of the season. This phase will have 14 mini tournaments of 10 games each for total of 140 games on the schedule. A team is assured of playing in a minimum of 40 games for this conference.
Preliminary Round. In the mini tournaments, the four teams will play a single round robin amongst themselves, lasting for three playing days. One tour point will be awarded for each game a team wins during the round robin.
Semifinal Round. On the fourth day, the teams will play the knockout crossover semifinals with the top team playing the fourth-ranked team in one game and the second-ranked team playing the third-ranked team in the other game. The winners advance to the championship game while the losers dispute Third Place.
Final Round. The championship and Third Place game will be a one-game playoff.
Tour Points. The champion will earn 10 tour points while the runner-up gets five tour points. The Third Place team will receive three points while the Fourth Place team gets no points. The highest tour point total a team may get in one mini tournament is 13 points (10 for winning the championship plus three from winning all their round robin games) and 52 should they sweep all their four mini tournaments.
THE NATIONAL PHASE
When all the mini tournaments have been completed, the 14 teams will ranked according to their total tour points earned with the top 12 advancing to the playoffs or National Phase. Ties will be resolved using the latest FIBA rules as amended.
For this inaugural conference, there will be no distinction if a team is from the North (Luzon) or the South (Vis-Min). Therefore, it is possible to have an all-North or an all-South finale. This phase will last for a minimum of 25 games and may extend to as much as 43 games. Depending on its performance, a teams playoff stint may be anything between one to as high as 17 games.
Qualifying Round. The four best teams will proceed directly to the quarterfinals while the Fifth to 12th Place teams go through the qualifying round. The eight teams will be paired according to their rankings as follows:
#5 versus #12
#6 versus #11
#7 versus #10 and
#8 versus #9
The teams will play a twice-to beat series with the higher-ranked team enjoying the home court advantage by hosting the first game and if needed, the deciding second game. The four series winners advance to the quarterfinals.
Quarterfinal Round. The quarterfinals will have the eight remaining teams playing a best-of-five series. The pairings will be as follows:
#1 versus #8 or #9
#2 versus #7 or #10
#3 versus #6 or #11 and
#4 versus #5 or #12
The higher-ranked team will enjoy the home court advantage by hosting the series first two games and if needed, the deciding fifth game. The other team will host Game Three and if needed, Game Four. The four series winners advance to the semifinals.
Semifinal Round. The semifinals will have the four remaining teams playing a best-of-five series. The pairings will be as follows:
#1, #8 or #9 versus #4, #5 or #12 and
#2, #7 or #10 versus #3, #6 or #11
The higher-ranked team will enjoy the home court advantage by hosting the series first two games and if needed, the deciding fifth game. The other team will host Game Three and if needed, Game Four. The two series winners advance to the Liga Pilipinas Finals.
The Liga Pilipinas Finals. The Liga Pilipinas Finals will be a best-of-five affair with the higher-ranked surviving team enjoying the home court advantage by hosting the series first two games and if needed, the deciding fifth game. The other team will host Game Three and if needed, Game Four.
