... Urahara is one hell of a trouble maker, hehehe. He's the source of this all. I could already see the run-in of the story.... here's my take:

.. Urahara has found a way to increase the level of a shinigami by turning into a hollow but his experiments have failed with normal souls so in one way or the other Shinji and some of the captains got involved with the experiment and were successful but that being a taboo in soul society they left for the human world to hide, with urahara and yoiruchi. And all of this was witnessed by Aizen... and so his plan...

.. it would be nice if the writter will make a history about Ichigo's father, now that would be a treat. But i'm guessing he's one of the conspirators to create the vizard, maybe that's why he chose to go to the human world, changed his name from "whatever" to Kurosaki to avoid detection from the Gotei 13...something like that. hehehe.
