MANGKONO or PHILIPPINE IRONWOOD is known to be the hardest Philippine hardwood species. Cutting a 70cm thick tree with axes normally requires 3 hours, but cutting a Mangkono tree with the same diameter usually takes 2 to 4 days. Diamond-point saws have been used exclusively but a great volume of water is needed to counter overheating.

nindot jud magcono... i had samples of it... nindot jud kahoya. but the 'el natural' style of the furniture is just not my cup of tea.. nevertheless it's a very fine wood.
