along this line, the soul (being an operating system as you describe it) is "entrapped" in the brain hence owes its existence upon the brain...thus a sou or spirit is material in essence?

Yes the soul owes it existence upon the brain, but it has no material essence. Sartre best describes it, that conciousness itself is apparently not anything. It is a pure function, an emptiness, a wind blowing toward being: Nothingness. 'We' are really nothing.

Of course all of this ideas are relative to our taken position. As a christian I believe there's is since I believe that there is resurection.
