Amare is definitely more athletic and explosive than Timmy ever was but the years Duncan spent in college ( 4 years) gave him the maturity and composure that Amare never got the chance to develop as of the moment in his young career whe he jumped directly from HS... That's why, instant champion... When Duncan came into the league, it only took him 3 seasons to win his first title with an aging David Robinson, Avery Johnson and an ailing Sean Elliot during the lockout season... From his rookie season, he took the mantle of leadership right away because he had the maturity of a team leader... Tim Duncan, I would say, is the best player in the NBA since 2003 when Shaq began to slow down, not statistically... But with regards to success and the way he brings his team to consistently win... Reminds me of Bill Russell...
Last year, Duncan stepped aside for Parker to shine... But now it seems he wants to take charge once again in Texas... Maybe to prove his doubters wrong when they said the Amare-Shaq combo can neutralize the best ever PF in the NBA...
Although we may have another MVP... But I truly believe Tim Duncan is the best player in the NBA... Consistent 20-10 since his rookie season... Career average of 21.6ppg and 11.8rpg...
"Apart from his impressive statistics, Duncan has gained a reputation as a good clutch player, given that his playoff career averages are higher than his regular-season statistics. Eleven-time NBA champion Bill Russell further compliments Duncan on his passing ability, and rates him as one of the most efficient players of his generation. Because of his versatility and success, basketball experts have spoken of Duncan as one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history, while coach Popovich and team-mates Parker and GinĂ³bili have also credited much of San Antonio's success to him. Duncan's detractors however, label him as "boring" due to his simple but effective style of play. Following his first championship ring in 1999, Sports Illustrated described him as a "quiet, boring MVP", a characterization which persists today.
Duncan himself commented on his "boring" image, stating: "If you show excitement, then you also may show disappointment or frustration. If your opponent picks up on this frustration, you are at a disadvantage." Sports journalist Kevin Kernan commented on his ability to relax and stay focused, stating that having a degree in psychology, Duncan often not only outplays, but outpsychs his opponents. Duncan has also stated that he especially likes his bank shot, saying: "It is just easy for me. It just feels good."

Boring or not, he delivers the goods... Greatest PF of all-time...
not really the greatest, the title still belongs to Karl Malone.
karl malone is still the best and the most dominant PF of all time. not even Tim Duncan can match in Karl Malones prime
Well that's my opinion bai... I don't speak for everyone...Originally Posted by footlose
Besides, Malone never won a title now did he?
nope for simple reasons Michael Jordan, but that doesnt exclude you from being the greatest.
its like comparing john stockton to steve nash.. stockton never won an mvp award but is Nash better than John stockton? no.
take note I like steve nash and im a big Suns fan..
well thats your opinion and I respect that
We could debate about this all night but I'm sticking to my take... Besides, I'm a Tim Duncan believer. Even more now after watching that youtube link someone posted...heheheOriginally Posted by footlose
Anyways I respect your opinion, no need to argue, I adore the Mailman. But "FOR ME", Tim Duncan is the best PF... Ever... 'Nuff said, nothing would change my mind...^^
