CMOS battery is just a power source to save your BIOS settings, time, etc...

Even without the battery, your system can still boot up, but the time will be different, the time will always reset everytime you turn it off and on again..

Bitaw, pwede ra diay mo boot ang pc without CMOS battery? just curious.

my p35-ds3p booted vista just fine (somehow, the drive info and boot sequence info were retained), but after the part where one can see a progress indicator), the display turned bad (screen was totally incomprehensible). after replacing the battery, everything went fine.
