MCP refers to any person who is certified with using/implementing/etc a microsoft product or technology.


A candidate who has passed any current certification exam (any exam that has not retired) as of October 1, 1998, will earn the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) credential. The exception is Exam 70-058: Networking Essentials; passing this exam alone will not certify an individual as an MCP.

This change is retroactive. Any MCP candidate who passed a current exam as of October 1, 1998, will be certified as an MCP on that date.

The MCP credential has evolved to reflect changing job requirements. All current MCP exams measure an ability to perform a set of job function–based skills with a single Microsoft product. The new MCP requirement enables individuals to acquire an entry-level certification that more closely applies to today's skill set requirements.
