Default Scanning pictures from a magazine

Does anyone here routinely scan images from a magazine? Anyone have any tips on what to do from start to finish? ... including scan settings, moire removal, file formats, etc.

    Much thanks.

rip off the mag for high quality magz... yep rip the page off if u wanna have a flat and clean scan...

300 DPI setting <-- standard setting for printables..
i suggest you scan them at 600 DPI or 200%

as for the file format, TIFF, PNG will do

for removing moire patterns after scans, do the 600DPI/200% setting then save it as TIFF or PNG.
afterwards load up Photoshop, then apply Filter > Noise > Median and put 2 for the radius... then resize image to your prefered size and then save...

u may wanna play around with Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask, set amount at around 35-40%, make sure to apply this before resizing...

hehehe, why i know this? i uused to scan things like what your scanning now vern... nyhahahahaha....

Nice info, neugent! I'm not doing the same thing as you do and not getting high quality scanned images. Thanks for the info. I'll try it!

@neugent ... heh, I'd really prefer not ripping pages off, but yeah, that would be best. What I don't get is how people get these great scans that I can't seem to get after scanning it at high resolutions and following moire removal instructions on the web. About that scanning of FHM, you should get back to it and give me copies of your scans and how you did 'em. heh
