First, the PNP is surprised why a surveillance camera was installed in front of La Salle Greenhills where ZTE-NBN deal key witness Jun Lozada sought refuge. Police Inspector Ed Caracas of the Mandaluyong City Police said they were surprised and had nothing to do with it. Then, Eastern Police District director Chief Supt. Nilo dela Cruz admitted that the camera was installed at La Salle to monitor the traffic along Ortigas Avenue, further stating that "what could a camera do? It's not deadly". Then you have another surveillance camera at St. Scholastica's College which, for some strange reason, was pointing at the walls. Apparently, PNP Director General Avelino Razon stated that the device found was not a PNP CCTV camera but rather a photo-sensor device that is used to automatically switch off lights during the daytime, contrary to the report of an IT expert from SSC that the device was a camera. More recently, we now have the PNP planning to install more closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) across the metro, at least 30 more, in the hopes of monitoring traffic and fostering the PNP's anti-criminality drive.
