    reactions for this trade...

"This isn't nearly as bad as the Shaq trade -- let me get that out of the way up front. But it has the same whiff of panic to it, coming as it did after the Mavs suffered consecutive whippings at the hands of second-tier Eastern teams, and following Mark Cuban's insistence that Dallas wouldn't unload half its team for Kidd."

Jason Kidd is back in Dallas. Now at least Mark Cuban will now STFU about the Lakers-Grizzlies trade.

    The deal:

New Jersey sent: Jason Kidd and Malik Allen
Dallas sent: Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, Desegana Diop, Maurice Ager, first round draft picks for 2008 and 2010, and $3M in cash.

In a separate deal, New Jersey sent Antione Wright for a second round draft pick and other considerations.

Now the Nets got what they want for Kidd: Harris, a young and promising guard, and Diop and George, whose contracts will be expiring soon. The Nets can now consider rebuilding with such a young and new line-up next season. The Nets also will buy out Stackhouse's contract and he'll immediately become a free agent. He's expected to return to Dallas after 30 days.

The Nets are also discussing a possible Vince Carter-Jermaine O'Neal swap.

The West: Pau Gasol to Los Angeles Lakers, Shaquille O'Neal to Phoenix, Damon Stoudamire to San Antonio, and now Jason Kidd back to Dallas.

    Who's next? Houston? Utah?

Wow that looks like a good deal but...

IMHO the Mavs are giving up too much for Kidd.

    1. They lose Diop who happens to be a backup to Dampier ( I personally think Diop is better than Damp)
    2. They also lose Jerry, a proven 2 guard
    3. They also lose Devin Harris who is a future PG. At least he has an outside shot compared to Kidd

They gave up depth for Jason, now Dirk will be forced to play Center if Damp will be in foul trouble.

^^Just like Phoenix, I personally think that Dallas is desperate and feels they need something more than their usual line-up. Bringing in Jason Kidd will bring them a truly experienced and proven veteran.

Dallas has been knocking on the Finals door for quite sometime and was denied by teams like San Antonio and Miami. The Mavericks will be good for about 2 or 3 years the most with Kidd, just like Phoenix with Steve Nash, Shaquille O'Neal, and Grant Hill.

But deal is indeed a gamble long-term. Jason Kidd's contract is due after the 2008-09 season and is still doubtful if he'll sign back in the NBA with his age. Though it will free up at least $21M of salary cap space, the big question is that can they acquire a player like Devin Harris? IMHO, I think Dallas should've sent Jason Terry instead of Devin Harris. Kidd will be a great mentor to groom Harris into a much better point guard.

Jason Kidd will be wearing number 2 in return to Dallas, signifying his second return to the team.
