Speak out: A call for sobriety
By Rep. Edcel C. Lagman

Calls for the resignation of President Arroyo are long shots from the wilderness of contrived accusations and partisan innuendos. Troubled times demand sober statesmanship, not reckless brinkmanship.

National leaders must exercise caution and restraint lest their unwarranted broadsides would lead to the erosion of the people’s confidence in government.

Allegations of corruption and electoral fraud must first be proved in the crucible of judicial process, not in the mudslinging arena of political vendetta and partisan motivations.

The economy cannot thrive in a hostile environment of intrigues and destabilization.

There is a proper forum for every accusation. The testimonies of any Tom, Dick and Harry must not be elevated to gospel truth pending their validation in the furnace of judicial scrutiny.
