Default Lee Tomahori's XXX2 - The Next Level

    @Blongkoy
i say it again, step back a bit and take in a breathe of fresh air.

this movie obviously upset you enough you just have to go and gloat.
and i'm thinking, why bother? were you by any chance misled into believing
this movie is a work of art? i, being just a plain juan, might never fully understand
what's in this movie (have yet to see) that elicit from you such passionate outburst.
i will trust you though, you being a learned man, a practitioner of the "discipline", i
will trust that your criticisms are reasonable.

now, it's also pretty obvious you're quite sensitive specially to matters pertaining to
your "discipline". a trait quite normal to people who have taken their "discipline"
seriously, in your case, too seriously. it might be in your best interest then to
restrain yourself from watching anymore of this stuff. or at least know before hand
that some of them are not to be taken seriously

and oh, i won't repeat that bit about getting off the high horse.
yours obviously is too high up, it's impossible for you to get down.

Now let us get back to "XXX2" --- this movie about a NATO tank running amok.

I paid good money to watch this tasteless patische of Lee Tamahori ("Die Another Day"). Why can't I complain?

Should consumers now take only what is peddled to them and not complain even if the product is short of what it is purported to be? I just do not believe in the old argument that movies are such and such because it is what the audience want. In reality, the audience want more.

"XXX2" --- true to its calling --- is simply pornographic, on the grounds that there is nothing in it but hardcore nonsense. Now --- and get me right --- I am not trying to convince anyone to be with me in this notion.

I don't believe film has grammar. It has but one grammar -- if the film results then that is it's own grammar.

And only if it does result to the liking of genuine movie aficionados is that grammar good.

no sir, no one is trying to curtail your right to complain.
my only take here is, why bother?
i've been trying to rationalize why you did bother.
it occurred to me that you might not have seen the first movie nor a trailer
of it and this second helping. you might have just went and watch merely
for the fact that it's a tamahori film but then...

what is that in there? that seems to me a pretty good indication you did have
a good idea what this movie is all about? i think you knew exactly the movie is utter nonsense
and you need not convince anyone to be with you on this cause
everyone knows it too. i mean everyone including plain juan me. so you got
exactly what you paid for, didn't you? hence my question above, were you in
any way misled into believing the movie is something else? did they advertise
it to contain the answer to life's meaning?

the movie is exactly what it's touted to be, in your own word pornographic,
(MrBiddle) masturbatory (such intellectually authoritative words btw,
tsk! tsk!) but should we criticize it for being exactly what it is?
    i think not.

and oh, we should rename this thread, "much ado about nothing"

    Devnull,

Before we completely go out of topic on this thread --- and if you have not yet watched "XXX2" --- please go see it anytime at your convenience and then we will discuss it on the basis of its merits or whatever is its opposite. I will be on the side of the movie being the mega thrash that it is. And you can argue as you please.

But for now I will not any further be drawn to any discussion that would only question each other's motives or their basic understanding of what cinema is or why must we bother to criticize that which do not appeal to our basic appreciation of things before us. That will only cause the Moderators to lock this thread.

    @Blongkoy
i think you missed my point.
i'm not discussing nor arguing the merits of the movie for i know there's none.
and it would be such a foolish move for a plain juan like me who knew nothing of
the intimacies of filmmaking nor the vocabulary to try and argue about film merits
with a learned filmmaker such as you are. i'm not worthy.

i was merely amazed you took the time to nitpick on a movie for being exactly
what it is. doubly amazing is that fact that you already had a pretty good idea the
movie would be non-sensical. complaining about it then seem to me in itself
non-sensical. that there pretty much sums up my whole point.
