Many are asking a logical question: If the opposition was aware of an alleged tape of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ordering Election Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano to ensure her victory in the May 2004 polls, why wasn't it exposed at the time when it could have achieved maximum effect, during the wake and funeral of Fernando Poe Jr.? Judging from recent events, the answer seems clear. Malacañang has alleged that the tape, which it claims to be fake, appears to be part of an elaborate multi-stage plan to implicate the entire Arroyo family, in an effort to bring down the prime target: President Arroyo. Looking at the confluence of events, it's tempting to think so. But one must concede that it did take a lot of brains and money to hatch this elaborate plot. It's obvious that the opposition is constantly outwitting the administration.

So, which is the tampered version, and which is the real thing? My answer: A is the fake, and D is the real thing. One, because experienced audio technicians, whose judgment I trust, have already come informally to that conclusion. Two, because the majority of the conversations have Garcillano's voice speaking with various people, which jibes with the contention that it was Garcillano's phone that was tapped, so how could any of his conversations be fake?

And three is the transcript of a conversation on June 4 with someone who sounded like Mike Arroyo. In both the "original" and the "altered" versions, Mike says, "Kung pwede ho, tulungan niyo si Bobby Barbers." Mike wouldn't say "ho" to a young operative in the campaign staff, he would say that to someone like Garcillano. Moreover, the other person says: "Nandito po kami sa session ngayon, eh. Nag-usap na kami ni Senator." Since Senator Barbers never attended any of the canvassing in Congress, the session alluded to must be the Commission on Election en banc (canvassing the senatorial elections), which means it must be Garcillano on the other end-whether in the original or the doctored version.

I hope I am wrong. But if I am right, Garcillano is dead meat, Gloria is going to sink in that muck, and worst of all, the country might sink with her.

Monsod should not have used the word "might". the operative word is "will". the country WILL sink not only because of GMA (if Monsod got it right) but because of all the political hoopla going on. peso is now down after just a few days of rallying against the dollar. investors are now hesitant. i fear for the economy. i fear for the nation. i weep for my nieces, i weep for my future children.

i don't want to be emotional, but i can't help sharing some of the people's "bloodlust" towards the opposition.

the difference is this: GMA is obviously trying to do what she thinks is best for the country as evidenced by her "unpopular" fiscal reforms. these reforms, i believe, will help our country in the not so distant future. on the other hand, the opposition reeks more of power hunger. their intents and purposes seem to be more dubious and questionable. there is no doubt that from the moment GMA became president, they have exhausted all effort to retake power. my question is: have they really done anything to serve the country and make the lives of their constituents better? the answer is no. GMA has done more to help the economy and the country than them. and yet they claim that they can do better? ehat has Sotto done, or Enrile, or even Pimentel? nothing except criticize and complain. now if you have Lito Atienza or Bayani Fernando, criticize her, then i might actually stand up and listen. - quoted from ramvingar
