Arroyo cheated in the 2004 election, says ex-NBI official

(UPDATE) PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo cheated in the May 2004 election, according to a former deputy director of the National Bureau of Investigation who claimed to possess a "master tape" that would prove his allegation.

"The one sitting in Malacañang is not the real President of the Republic of the Philippines," said lawyer Sammy Ong in exclusive interview with GMA Network's Arnold Clavio aired live Friday on radio dzBB and in a press conference aired live on television later on the same day.

Ong had first refused to identify himself in the radio interview, saying he has been on the run since the tapes were given to him by his contacts at the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Ong then introduced himself at the press conference.

Those who wish to oust President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from office "have no plan for the nation at all" and threaten to "throw the nation's economic engine in reverse," Malacañang said following Ong's exposé.

"The President has not violated any law and is not charged with any crime," Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said in a statement faxed to INQ7.net.

"We have started Phase Two to broaden the benefits of economic stability, while they sit idly by and want power to be handed over to them on a silver platter," he said.
