Best way to repair dead HDD is to freeze? myth or reality?

mga bro...ang "theory" behind aning freezing is this: the hard drive has stopped spinning or slowed down too much, the bearings are locked up or one/some of the platters have become misaligned due to wear and tear(ikaw bai paluyokon ug sigi dili ba ka makuyapan!!!) . By putting it through temperature extremes the internal components and lubrication expand and contract loosening them up and redistributing the lubrication. taghap2x ra ni mga troubleshooting method...what might work for one will not work for all...hehehehe...have you ever wonder why re-arranging IDE is DIE!!!

any experiences with repairing HDD by freezing it.. does it works?

Far from being the best way to repair a drive -- It may work, it may not. I would guess most would not. I've tried this myself doing data recovery on a bad HDD that shuts down after a couple of minutes. Put it in an airtight ziplock and put it i another airtight ziplock to minimize moisture. Worked for me. I was able to copy data from the drive for a few minutes. When it dies, I just put it back in the freezer and do the same steps until all the important data is recovered. If the DATA is really really important or if the DATA is your life. Don't risk putting it in the freezer. You may do more harm than good. Leave it to professional DATA RECOVERY experts like ontrack which have their own clean room. Freezing the drive should be last resort if you can't afford the services ($1500/disk) and if data is not that critical.
