Default Pinay nurses in thick of legal battle in US.

    READ HERE.

I was in a grocery once and a stranger, a fellow Cebuano approached me just to tell me about her dreadful experience as a nurse. She was a doctor here and worked as a nurse in the U.S. She recounted to me that they were made to work 12-16 hours a day with no day off. They sleep in common quarters. Since she was scared of losing her job by terminating the contract, i advised her to go moonlighting for another employer who will also sponsor her and go to a lawyer to discuss how to terminate her contract with her current employer leaving her without any legal impediments. A relative in Chicago also experienced the same thing and also did the same thing.

My cousin in Florida also told me the same thing but since they were well off she got an apartment right away.

Most petitioning employers have a tendency to exploit their petitioned nurses for all the monetary reasons.

What about those nurses who loaned money in the Philippines for pocket money? Since the dollar dropped, these nurses will take longer time to pay their debts than usual.

So you see folks, though it is more rewarding to be a nurse in the states, it is not all fairy tales here.

The dollar will continue to drop up to 38 pesos this year, so think about it. If I were a nurse right now, I'll save money to buy dollars and put off that American Dream for awhile because life is easier and happier in the Philippines.

I also personally think that teachers are better off than nurses, in terms of pay and stability.

Old news. Thank you for snipping out the whole story though. You make it sound that this happened because they were Pinay. How very unbiased of you.

it was NOT because they were pinays but because most foreign nurses ARE pinays.

talking about biases, i have yet to hear a story of an American nurse with the same working condition and if ever an American nurse experience such exploitation, she can always resign because she is a citizen. on the other hand, if a foreign nurse resigns or terminates her contract, there are a lot of other implications which can be complicated and in this particular article, legal impediments.

it's not about being an American or a Filipino or being a foreigner for that matter. it is simply an employee-employer relationship. in this case, the premise is, since i sponsored/petitioned you, I have to get my money's worth (ROI) ASAP. That's all there is to it.

    Business knows no race.

Exploitation happens whether those exploited are Americans or immigrants my friend. I have seen American health care workers in the same fashion. You not hearing stories is the same reason you hear stories of Pinays being exploited. Your news gets filtered whether voluntarily or involuntarily. If you wanted to display all sides of the subject, you'd simply say ... "Workers get exploited by employers". But no, you portray it in such a way that betters your own end. You summarize everything so nicely ... business knows no race. Unfortunately news does.

it just unfortunate that this story only portrays the pinay's plight. i did not personally intend to make it one-sided. the news maybe one-sided, my opinion and experience may be one-sided but what can i do?

for whatever it is worth, it was unintentional. i am just sharing the news and experience. i can't just change it for everybody's agreement.

explotaiton occur in business regardless of what race you are.
when the us was still a new world-
Blacks were stolen from africa to work in the fields to free.
Europians who doesnt have fare in ships to go to the us where allowed to board the ship as long as they work for the captain for a certain years after that they are free.
In the modern times, nurses come to US to work in hospital and they are contracted to work for certain years. the good news is
after that they are free to work for whereever after the contract.

If you are rich and doent want to be enslave, come to US and study nursing , after that you can work in the hospital without any contractual obligations.

To me the US is still the best and you can be rewarded if you work hard.

So if your dream is to be a nurse and come to the US , dont stop dreaming and pursue that dream. because you are gonna make one thousand fold compare to a philippine nurse salary.

If you are happy in the Phil, you dont have to the US.

The truth to this is new commers to the US will be taken advantage off
and to avoid this know the laws and your rights.

yes, if you work in the US and spend your hard-earned money in the Philippines then you make one thousand fold compared to a philippines' nurse salary. but if you work in the US and spend your money there, wala ra na - patas ra ang storya

some nurses are actually living break even.

but i guess the majority are doing well.

Most nurses that i personally know have houses and cars.

Unlike in the phil which is very hard to accompish.

if you are a nurse which is a recesion proof job.

you can buy a house and built equity.

when you are ready to retire you can cash out that house.

or you can cash it out when the market is healthy you can make a fortune.

If your dream is be be a nurse and work in the US.

    Follow your dreams.
