Any musician who plays on stage and says he's not doing it to impress chicks is lying. Or, he doesn't know that he's doing it to impress chicks.

It's a basic Darwinian fact. All animals show off (by decorating themselves, fighting, shouting, singing) to impress females.

You're damn right! Back in the summer of 73 i had the "misfortune" of tagging along with my military dad who was assigned in Siquijor. What I predicted would be uneventful summer turned out to be the biggest ego tripping vacation of my life. My dad's enlistedmen used my younger brother and I as "passport" to a "diskoral". Since we already knew the band playing, it didn't take long for them to goad us to dish out a couple of songs with me on lead guitar and my brother on bass. Fortunately the drummer Allen was familiar with the drum arrangements of Santana's "Soul Sacrifice". what the heck, so i gave it a shot, if i fumbled...out here on this mystic island, who would notice anyway? bahala na! I didn't have an ounce of stage fright, thinking that behind those ghostly silhouettes in the blacklight lit dancefloor (tawag nila didto "tennisan", bisag ladlaran ra sa humay!) were "lanslubs" girls (lana sa lubi ang shampoo).

When the lights came out... the girls I taught were "lanslubs" turned out to be the prettiest bunch of Siquijor babes from Silliman U. That night I was the king of Siquijor!

must have loads of influences, knows how to read notes, chops etc.
must have a heart. Don't play music that aint important to you coz it destroys your relationship to music okay

............we always argue about good musicians and all that, but what really makes a good musician, the qualities.

for me:

........must have patience
.........persistence
........high I.Q.
.........and must love music

high I.Q. is not a pre-requisite.. E.Q. on the otherhand is a must.. Emotional maturity is more important than Above Average intelligence... Some people who know that they have high I.Q.'s tend to discriminate and disregard the opinions of others.. Well, this is very important if you're in a band... There must be mutual respect.. However, i said SOME, not ALL... I know some musicians who are very smart yet get along well with their bandmates...
