Parade’s grand finale: Las Vegas-style show

CEBU CITY, Philippines - For A grand finale, the Cebu City government will mount a Las Vegas-style show of dancers at the grandstand of the city sports center after the Sinulog parade in the evening of Jan. 20, 2008.

Total cost: P1.3 million.

First lady Margot Osmeña and 124 other professional and student dancers from the Dancesport Team Cebu City will provide one of the major attractions of the Sinulog parade.

A proposed allocation of P2 million for the activity still needs the approval of Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

The budget is on top of the P8 million the city government is releasing to the Sinulog Foundation Inc. and the Sinulog organizing committee as financial assistance for the 2008 grand parade.

Performers will come from the Dancesport Team Cebu City and the University of Cebu Dance Company working with choreographer Victor Cuenco. Members of the Lupon Anduyo Percussion Ensemble will also participate.

The single biggest expense of P532,000 will be for costumes and headdresses. (See table.)

Ricky Ballesteros, Sinulog Foundation executive director, clarified that only P1.3 million will be spent for the grand finale; the remaining P700,000 will be used to settle cash advances made for the previous Sinulog 2007 grand finale.

“The Sinulog 2008 finale is not really that expensive. We have to spend in order to produce a mini Las Vegas show,” he said./Reporter Doris Bongcac

unsay reason dili mu apil ang camiguin? okay raman pud dili mu apil ang camiguin..at least naa chance uban contingents..also, i don't think one loss could mean one less na ang mga contingents...daghan man ang ni apil nga mga rookies so-to-speak..
