i just love singing "Lupang Hinirang" in Cebuano - the Yutang Tabonon. u see, half of the words in Lupang Hinirang are difficult to speak and what is "pasisiil"?
anyway, history tells us that the national language was imposed on us by Manuel L. Quezon during the 1930s (site). it was supposed to be in answer to the great language barrier in a country whose inhabitants has over a hundred languages. what was needed was a common language with which they could communicate with each other and express themselves as a people of one nation. Quezon pushed for Tagalog to be the one.
but then again, the key words there are supposed to be. the language diversity continues as Filipinos still had not accepted a national language at the expense of their regional languages more than 14 decades since its implementation.
maybe the best we can do is to start thinking of ourselves as Filipinos first and then Cebuanos, Ilocanos, Bikolanos, Tagalogs second.

Wala koy ika comment na bati bahin nimo bai because I learned a lot from you . Pero saying mag nars ko , comp engineer , IT , Japayuki etc does not make you not PATRIOTIC anymore . Just because you lived overseas means that you dont love your motherland anymore . Being PATRIOTIC is displayed into a lot of factors not limited to have a PURE FILIPINO name , WORK in the PHILIPPINES etc but the way I see it the most prestige honor of being patriotic other than giving honors to the flag is not hiding your IDENTITY like :

Daghang patriotic na wala sa lugar. Big turn offs! I hate people like that, arrogants and over bearing. And I encounter a lot of them but at their sight.... I quickly hide, hehe.
Come August, I will become a Dutch citizen, but I AM NOT GIVING UP MY PHILIPPINE CITIZENSHIP. I am glad that I can have dual citizenship.
So, do I sound patriotic, or just practical?
