Help: MiniDv Camcorder to Computer Video Capture

Guys,

I have a Sony MiniDv Camcorder model DCR-HC28. My laptop has a ieee 1394 port (i-link), i bought a firewire cable at smartdrive sm cebu for 180. It fits well to my camcorder and laptop.

The problem is the laptop cannot detect the camcorder. Im using windows xp. in the LCD on the camcorder it shows DVin. The sony manual has no instructions on how to capture video to a computer.

Can anyone please help me on this matter.

is the cable 4 pin to 4pin or 6pin to 4pin?

the firewire cable might be defective. I tried to buy sa cdrking and i think smartdrive has these cables too. these cables don't work for some reason.

try borrowing from someone who has a firewire cable which works for them so you can isolate the problem.
