^see you when you come back? the books?

Okay today i had a very nice experience. figured it would be a good idea to walk to work as i had around 45 minutes (and office opens on the dot). what a 45-minute walk it was! i now call it my "pleasure walk" and plan to do it regularly.

so i walked down memory lane--literally! sure there are new shops near Velez Hospital but there's still Dan Erie Canteen. My, it's been almost 15 years since my early college days and the place just brings back memories. UST (Under the Sambag Tree) by the main entrance of CIM is now landscaped, but the sambag tree is still the same old sambag tree. one of these days im going to talk to that tree. (they say that if you talk to a tree re a prob, it will always give you the answer. but this is another story.)

then i passed by OMF and decided to browse the books there. nice selection! and theres this very nice gift item that i plan to make a version of...a potential small business hmmmm (another story).

then along Ramos St. still theres a pet shop and it so happened a pet attendant was grooming a puppy by the display window, so i stayed a bit to observe. i really want to get a dog or a puppy, but who's gonna take care of it while im at work?

Robinson's has some fruit stands nearby, and the citrusy smell in the air confirmed it's really the christmas season.

I went up the skywalk, and at the other end i noticed this shop--waaaa, ukay-ukay galore! the prices are okay, but they can't beat those in Carbon.

Osmena Blvd. theres another ukay-ukay shop. hmmmm so-so items.

Rizal Memorial Library. i have never gone inside this library in my whole life. so i retraced my steps, walked towards the guard house, and asked the guard if this was really operational, like there are books inside. she said yes, and i told her i'll be back and check the place and become a member.

no, this is not an ordinary blog...FRUGALITY entry jud ni siya ha, kay wa jud koy gi spend maski gamay when i had that pleasure walk, but i got so much joy out of it. and it wasnt a waste of time at all...it was just 45 minutes!

and that is the essence of frugality. it's getting the most joy out of things and experiences, even simple ones.

Velvett nalingaw ko'g apil. It was as if I was walking with you; I passed by the same places a lot of times. Even ate at Dan Eries kay I used to work in Ramos and was impressed to find out from a coworker that it has been there since she was in college, and she was older than me (no offense to her) hehe.

The pet shop is one of my favorite places to pass by. Reminds me of the song "how much is that dog in the window."

The last time I have been to Rizal Memorial Library was when I was very young, didto mi i bilin (me and my brother) sa akong mama kung naa siyay lakwon kadyut. I was eternally curious about the library lately but never got the chance to come up the steps.

    Thanks for the trip!

hi velvett, yup, see you when i come back, the book is on my to-do list

I went to an ukay-ukay shop. Picked up two leather skirts, one all silk blouse. Also one white lace blouse and beige metallic pants, for our White Christmas party. All items at 3 for P100.

Will definitely go to Carbon when Im back. I always get a secret tickle when people complement me on my clothes; they never know and Im not telling, hehehe... Ato-ato ra ni nga sikreto, para sa mga 'frugal', hehehe...

@Luthienne hehehe familiar diay ka sa Dan Erie/s Canteen. mao jud it's hard to believe it has the same look for 15 years now, as far as i know. naa nay Brutus sa tupad, pero ang Dan Erie naa gihapon students daghan. my college classmates and i used to eat there lunchtime, ug dili jud ko kalimot mamantay mi sa mga medical students kay ilang kan-on puro meat (choriso, steak, etc) then manigarilyo pa jud inig human. we had the expectation somehow that they'd eat healthy since they know about diseases and health and all heheh..naive kaayu

today i changed my route: sacred heart church - C & E bookstore - Redemp - St. Patrick Square - Cagnaan Bookshop - Coco Mall - workplace

    finds:
    - naay mamaligyaay ug native cheese diha redemp. kana gani i putos ug dahon sa saging? ingon ni manoy kada wednesday ug sunday ra na. so motultol nalang ko if i want to get those. favorite na nako pagkabata
    - naay ukay ukay store diha dapit sa baseline...murag daghan na man jud ron ukay ukay shops...pero pinakabarato jud sa carbon lage
    - REDBUNKS business lounge and study center in st. patrick's square. after reading their ad in sunstar last sunday, i decided to check the place. so i was there today and talked with the incharge/owner. one can rent an office bunk at 3K a month, free internet connection, mailbox, secretariat (in case mag freelance ta or unsa..and we dont want to have an office at home). i particularly inquired about the small conference room they have as im thinking this would be a good BookClub venue. will talk about the details i got in tomorrow's bookclub meeting.

    @DebutsAndIDo's
bravo! heheheh...ma doble jud atong kalipay aning frugal ta. same high feeling when we shop til we drop in malls and in ukay-ukay shops...pero i get more joy out of doing the latter kay i feel so in control of my money (rather than vice versa)

see you soon! naa na nyay Frugal Club kadugayan. actually this is one of my passion pursuits. i want to have a website and blog/forum just for this. and a freecycle.org kind of thing too. vegetarian club, bookclub, frugality club...these are all connected really so ma manage ra ni..haha

^that's the old approach to frugality, kanang "tihik" or stingy. resentment and feelings of deprivation ang resulta ani.

there's another approach to frugality mga bros and this is voluntary simplicity, which is a means to an end--financial security. add to that less stress, time for loved ones, and surplus for others in need.

sometimes it's just the thrill of beating the system. kana bitawng you dont have to spend a lot as society expects you to? think about getting something you like for a fraction of the retail cost, di ba malipay ka?

the key is approaching frugality with creativity and resourcefulness so that you still enjoy life without spending a lot.
