Mabir Virus targets Symbian Series 60 cellphones via MMS and Bluetooth.

The Cabir virus that has been infecting the Symbian Series 60 cellphones has now mutated into Mabir, a worm that propagates through Multimedia Messages (MMS) or via Bluetooth. Once the virus has infected a phone, it tries to replicate itself immediately by looking for other phones and sending a file named caribe.sis.

The virus is also smart enough to detect incoming SMS or MMS to the infected phone and will reply to the sender by sending the infected file. If your phone asks permission to install caribe.sis, reply NO.

The virus did not spread widely yet, but this might juts be a matter of time. Anti-virus vendors are scrambling to provide protection for the new variants and just like computer viruses, the number of attacks of cellphones is likely to increase as the phones get more capabilities.
