yes, you're right. It was solely Marcos who was corrupt in his time. Focused-Corruption i might say. And there was no thing as press-freedom, look at the situation right now where the press can do whatever they want, the country is in chaos.

Marcos was a very very intelligent man, a strong leader yes, persuasive especially his relations with the rest of the world. If only he wasn't too greedy, monopolization, corruption, in my POV I could still stomach those in exchange for good economy. Okay lang basta daghang trabaho, wa kaayo'y gagutom.

    There were remarkable achievements:

Infrastructure (roads, bridges, geothermal plants, nuclear plant, irrigation systems etc.) agriculture, especially rice production, increase in foreign investments, substantial growth in the tourism industry, numerous economic programs and development projects were implemented: farmers were given technical and financial aid which caused another substantial growth in the agricultural sector. In fact, the Philippines became rice-sufficient and even became a rice exporter under Marcos regime. Whatelse, incentives for foreign investors: tax exemption privileges. Whatelse, Balikbayan programs, Barangay programs encouraging barangay residents to engage in their own livelihood projects. GNP grew from 6% to 7%. Philippines became a leading member of the third-world. He was doing great, he was. He was very diplomatic. To the world he was a promising leader.

In his own words: "This nation can be great again. This I have said over and over. It is my articles of faith, and Divine Providence has willed that you and I can now translate this faith into deeds."

But he had to extend his power and that was his downfall. Pero if you guys really think of it? Daku pud ug sa ang mga kumunista. They took advantage of the growing discontent with the Marcos. Sa' nilang duha. Let us not forget that many of the acts of violence during the first 2 years of Martial Law were inspired by the communists. And usa pud... we love freedom too much but we cannot be responsible enough to take care of that freedom and make it flourish. Awa karon, demokratiko tuod pero purdoy pas tanang purdoy. I have to agree that dinha na nisugod ug ka down ang atong economy dinha nang nagsugod na ang grabeng samok tungod ra pud sa mga kumunista. Let's say if only we gave Marcos a chance kuno? What if, bisan 20 years in power gyud siya, then straight straight lang ang dagan sa atong ekonomiya, straight straight lang iyang mga visions para sa atong nasud, sige lang gud naay maihap nga mga mag monopolize panag-iya ug mga negosyo basta controlled lang, daghang trabaho etc., okay atong rice production, okay atong tourism, smooth tanan like when he started, asa na kaha ang Pilipinas karon?

Think about it. But still, we can't help it. Nasobraan kagubot, daghang na oppress daghang kasakit. So... wa na ta'y mahims.

He jumpstarted the booming Philippine economy but without any remorse and conscience he robbed the Philippines of its very bright future... the ultimate plunderer.

I hope he's very comfortable sitting beside Satan today.

At least for a moment there we have to admit that his first regime was impressive he did good to the country. He was a strong leader. He puts words into actions in fact, kato'y presidente nga grabe kaayo makaingganyo sa pinakagamay nga bahin sa atong nasud, livelihood programs sa mga barangays. When he said he was gonna make the nation great again, he did. I understand though when his greed kicked in, Filipinos suffered, and it was terrible.

first of all, marcos was a genius...i mean ma-utak yung tao. have you heard or read any of his speeches?? they're darn great.
limitado ra ang corruption::NAGUTOM ang mga corrupt public officials.(one reason behind the people power movement) it wasn't all about freedom, its was about PERSONAL interests for the overtakers.(see how they squabbled over the crumbs marcos left)hahaha

    as for

do you think (economically) the philippines would be more sound if a marcos-like president would run the country?
one thing is for sure, Gloria is no "marcos"..not even close. eh, pandadaya lang obvious na obvious. parang ninanakawan ka sa harapan.

compare that to marcos, eh hanggang ngayon hindi pa nila narerecover yung mga "nakaw" ni marcos. and they have to finance a committee just to recover such wealth.hahaha

***i'm just kinda pointing out marcos's and gloria's SHITNEZZ.*** i'd prefer marcos over her's.hahaha

do you think the Philippines is too much conscientious that we become puppets to factors/ parties (human rights, church etc.) which have their own agenda that deter the growth?

    why?
i guess an author in one of those history books i've read would agree on that...i just forget his name...i was surprised how different his views are when it comes pres. marcos. he said that a few years from now people's concept about the famous dictator would shift to a different direction. he said that there's a bias on how marcos has been portrayed in philippine history. almost all the authors of philippine history books are anti marcos and it is expected that what they wrote there are all against the former president. he said that there're more to marcos than being the dictator that he was...
