Mga bro, kabantay mo ba nga grabe nidaghan ang mga koreano ron sa atoa? samot na katong nagtuon ug English, di ba? Nindot unta kay daghan naay trabaho sa atoa nga moteach ug English sa ilaha apan we are actually training them to kill our industry in the near future. Dont you know that they are sponsored heavily by their Government to learn & speak English fluently para ma-launch nila in the near future ang ila business strategy in developing their call-center industry kay they want to grab the market from India who is at present, the leading provider of this service and of course, shunting us out eventually as alternate country-of-choice. In fact, sa Thailand gani, wa cla sugot magtukod ug inganing courses because of that strategic advantage na tumong sa mga Koreans.

Sigh! shortsighted ra sad kaau ato Govt ug ila pa gi-encourage kaning English special courses kay dollars man pero patay sad ta in the near end kay resbak man sad sa atong dollar-earning call center industry.

to give you some insights how Koreans operate here, dont you know that most of those Korean tourguides here in Cebu warns their tour groups na not to go to SM & Ayala kay private club kuno na and exclusive for local residents kay hadlok sila masakpan na triple if not quadruple ila quoted price sa ilahang guests. example lang, ang P75 na lambanog ila baligya sa ila kapwa koreans ug P1,000. Notice that Korean tourists that are being toured by Korean guides are only led into korean restaurants. Kanang mga koreano imo makit-an sa Mall o ordinary restos mao nang mga saag or mostly katong mga students.

Wait, klaro lang nako, im no Korean-basher. matter-of-fact, nakatour sad ko sa Seoul and nearby cities nila but then again, concerned lang ako on what i've seen at present.

I just want to clarify what you have observed and i want to clear things out para malamdagan sad ang mga istoryans and u also about koreans studying english in philippines. Take it from me kay dugay ko nagpuyo ug nagtrabaho ko sauna sa korea for 5 years.
Actually they come to philippines with the risk of being robbed, killed, kidnapped and etc. just to learn english because that’s one of the factor that they can have higher paying job in korea. Most of the big company there requires that because of globalization. Ayaw kahadlok anang call center nato dina kay mas dato pa ang korea sa pilipinas. Usa na na sila sa mga dato nga country sa Asia. Call center who are owned by americans are none existent there and I believe nga dili gyud na mo-exist didto kay pang third world country lang na. Wala nako gilait ang atong nasud pero nagsulti lang ko sa tinuod. Sa sweldo pa lang daan atras na ang amercano kay ang pinakabarato nga sweldo didto like janitor is 700 dollars a month. How much more kun mo-english pa sila, I dont think 2000 dollars/month is enough. Please bear in mind also nga niabot ang call center sa pinas tungod sa barato nga sweldo dili lang tungod sa english speaking ta. Mas ang korea pa ang nahadlok sa mga pilipino kay gatos gatos ang pinoy nga moanhi sa korea every month para manarbaho sa ilang mga factory. Another thing bai, dili lang kay pilipinas nga lugar ang ilang giadto para moskwela ug english. Ang katong maka-afford afford nila to-a mismo sa US nangiskwela.

About them eating and buying goods from there fellow koreans, nahitabo na tungod sa ilang patriotism. They just want to help there fellow koreans who are making businesses sa pinas. There, if you would stand in a street, mokaging na lang ka sa katugnaw, milagro na lang ug kita ka ug dili korean made cars. Samot na ng mga Japanese cars, Ekis kaayo na didto. Mao na asenso sila kay they love their own. Dili pareha nato nga ganahan kaayo ug mga imported nga produkto.

as ive said bro, ive also been to their country as a tourist and marvelled at their technological advancement esp. their culture of loving their own products and their distaste of Japanese cars. I even saw & experienced how they treat our countrymen-the workers including us who were tourist to their country and willing to spend there since as one storekeeper blurted that us Filipinos are not welcome to his store since we are fond daw of haggling and also window-shopping which at that moment, maybe out of pride, we impulsively bought out more items than we intended to. Now i dont know what's changing in SKorea now esp. so when most shoe & clothing companies transferred to China since these industries were in their heyday when i was there.

And if it has changed drastically as what you guys are strongly suggesting then i stand corrected. Albeit, still hoping that our govt should have done far better...

yo i dont know kng asa ka kakawat ana na balita but most or all of korean students na ako nakilala or amigo/amiga dri sa cebu kay isa ray rason nganong nagkaton cla ug ENGLISH.. Most of the jobs daw sa Korea kay kelangan daw
at least capable of speaking in English., Most of them want to go to broadcasting. Even corporate jobs daw kay kelangan daw ug english skill. Pero wla jd na mention ang word na "call center".

(3) callcenters: bro fratman2519, i will correct u dat callcenters exist only in 3rd world countries. India, Singapore and Ireland are not 3rd world countries. the reason american firms didnt put up callcenters in korea is the risk to their national security. much more if china sila.

You got it 100% correct. Not just cars and other japanese products, sa mga games sad they always want to beat japan. Everybody celebrates there when they beat japan.

Most of their factories are owned 100% koreans and its products are consumed by Korea itself. You maybe reffering to NIKE, ADIDAS and the like which are not koreans products. They dont care much about those products much more with the company. But of course, they are using it like us.

I agree with your correction about 3rd world countries but i dont agree with your national security risk. Please note that we are talking about South Korea not the north. South Korea is a strong ally to USA. Infact there are so many american bases in south korea. I'm still convinced that american call centers exist in philippines because of we speak good english, salary is low and unemployment is too high. I too came from that similar condition pero engineering work lang to amoa. Ila tawag ato is work-share and they make a lot of profit kay salary sa 1 american engineer is worth 5 to 10 filipino engineers. Imagine kung pilay output sa 10 engineers compare sa 1.

Bai for my 5 years stay in Korea wala gyud nako na na-feel nga gi-discriminate ko. Ato mismong mga igsoong pilipino ang nagpadiscriminate nato. Pila na man ka Koreans ang na-hold up, napusilan or nailad sa cebu lang. Lately di ba naa man toy korean student napusilan kay nisukol sa dihang gi-hold up sya. To be honest bai, mga buotan, friendly ug honest ang mga koreans. About sa mga prices, they probably know that but even if its 5 times the original price they dont care much kay gikan bya na sila sa mahal nga palaliton nga lugar. Patriotism still is the number 1 reason. Nothing more.

(2) sa ila pagilad sa ilang countrymen - kita man sad maigo kay impression sa mga tourist nga nailad nila, mahal kaau ang pilipinas sa ila mga goods & services so next time around adto na sila sa laing nasod n wala na 2nd visits nila sa atoa.

the best way to check if your assumption has some truth to it: check the annual Korean arrivals at the MCIAA IF there is a noticeable decline over the years. but if not, then that would mean the effect is negligible. you just said it "sa ila pagilad sa ilang countrymen" so why blame Cebu or the government? like I said, those tourist would figure it out some way or another.

for all we know, those Korean students currently studying in Cebu may have already set-up a website/forum specifically discussing about this issues ie prices for services, products etc. and maybe sharing "what to do, where to go in Cebu".
