Honda Bay is nothing compared to El Nido. I personally did not enjoy Honda Bay as well. In my opinion lang, you haven't truly experienced Palawan if you haven't been to El Nido It's paradise on earth.

Pictures are worth a thousand words.

My Honda Bay picture: (similar to yours. take note of the murky water and mediocre sand):

And, here are my personal pictures of El Nido. Taken from my point and shoot. I went wo years ago, off peak as well, around July same time as the Honda Bay photo.

(take note of the quality of the sand, clarity of the water, magnificent sunset, majestic limestone cliffs and overall ambiance). It's really a world of difference

Photo of the majestic limestone cliffs. From the plane:

One of the many uninhabited islands:

Dining in one of the islands:

While snorkeling: no need to dive

I wouldn't say its over-rated at all. In fact, it was more than what I expected.

Limestone cliffs and mountains are all over Palawan, you can see a lot of those limestone in underground river site.....those schools of fish can be seen at snake island/pandan island, yes no need to dive, even on a 3 feet deep, you can already touch and feed the fish. If you ompare my pictures of the undeground river and honda bay with your pictures of El Nido, i can still conclude that the view is just almost the same....maybe the sands are finer in El Nido but the view is just the same....just my opinion....

Ok That's just my opinion as well...considering I've been to both. Coz I went on probably the same island hopping trip in Honda Bay as you did--Snake Island, Pandan, Starfish etc and I was definitely NOT impressed. I would only go to Puerto Princesa again for the connecting flight to El Nido or for a return visit to the Underground River in Sabang. After all, you can't sell the beach to the Cebuano right?

But on the plane alone going to El Nido, it was totally a different story. Yes there may be limestone cliffs in Puerto Princesa, but they're not nearly as majestic, huge, towering and as clustered as the ones in El Nido. There are lagoons where you're surrounded on three sides by the tall limestone cliffs and secret beaches that you can access through a hole in the cliffs (dependent on the season and tides). If you've seen the movie "the Beach" shot in Phuket, it is widely reported that the beach mentioned in the book is loosely based on the secret beach in El Nido which the author visited.

Snorkeling in Honda Bay is different as well. You don't see 3-feet long Jack Fish in shallow waters in Honda Bay. Plus its not just the sand. Its the clarity of the water as you can see. You can see the water seamlessly change from a light green shade to a deep emerald. And a must try activity is going kayaking into different caves, nooks and caverns. And its just the overall ambiance really. You have to experience it to know what I'm babbling on about.

I hope other istoryans can comment on the difference between Puerto Princesa and El Nido.
