Lagi. mao jud nang question nako. @shaxrya, ni gawas na diay ang iPhone dha? under globe or smart?! kay impossible kau ang abs-cbn mo gamit og iPhone na unlocked bitaw w/c means illegal. Hehehe...
I think I read from somewhere that the NTC will not intervene regarding the use of unlocked iphones unless AT&T asked them to. I don't have the link or the source but I'm sure I've read something like that. I could have read it in a newspaper. I think that's the reason unlocked iphones are very rampant in the Philippines. Istore (BTC and Ayala) are even selling UNLOCKED iphones (No warranty though). But it gives you an idea that its not so illegal (or not even illegal at all here). Unlocked iphones are stated to be released sometime next year. There is also a possibility that Apple will release an unlocked iphone sooner somewhere in Europe where there's a law against locked cellphones.
its illegal to sell locked phones in france. but take note, i betcha apple will be selling it a lot more expensive in europe than in the USA. in canada its 499canadian thats around 500plus us dollors. so if they decide to price at 399euro dats still more than 500 usd. its still going to be worth it to buy it from the USA and unlock it by urself.
Canadian Dollars is less than US dollars .. 499 Canadian sounds about right .. 8 gig iPhones are 399 in the US.Originally Posted by ckice168

ahem... please check the news... canadian dollars are almost 1 is to 1. the dollar strength has been at its lowest all time. even the euro breached 1.45 before retreating to 1.4435 canadian dollar hit 1.03 then went back to .98. 2cent diff almost makes it even. at even at that, it is basically considered even.
consider that in canada sales tax and gst are standard while in the US sales tax is zero in some states like portland and new jersey. (canada has a double tax system. makes taxes almost 11-13% if I am not wrong...) so if an item is priced 100canadian you add sales tax and gst, I think sales tax is called vat there.
In the US you pay 399 plus sales tax. depending on the state. Washington state is 8.5% while California is 8.25% Nevada is 8.25% I think. Portland and New Jersey are ZERO.
oh boy.. according to this site:
http://sbinfocanada.about.com/cs/taxinfo/a/gst1_3.htm
tax total in canada is about 14%... rogers has anounced the iphone at 499canadian.
I guess I haven't been checking the currency these days - My bad.
By the way - not everything in Jersey have Zero sales tax... it depends on what you buy. Clothing, medicine, etc.. no sales tax on these.. all else is 7% tax.

Best option for Canadians who lives near the border is to cross Stateside and save a hundred bucks.

haha, I agree with that... I just really hate the sales tax figure... I wish it would be just on the price tags instead of added on top of price tags... jeesh... means its better to shop in portland now.. thanks for the info on the sales tax in new jersey.
