Who's at fault here? It depends who you're listening to. We'd like the villains to be the foreigners and victims to be ourselves. Is it really how this all played out.
1) A Philippine player (looks like half-African) caught tripping Daniel Kickert during pre-game warm-up which started an altercation. See
video.
2) RR Pogoy clearly elbowed Goulding twice in one sequence and then Kickert responding in kind. See first few seconds of this
video.
3) Chot Reyes telling his players to "hit somebody" and "put somebody on his arse". See
video.
4) Pingris who seems to celebrate the incident in taking this
selfie.
The claims by Chot that the Australians instigated the brawl, from his story about the warm-up to the actual game itself, seems to be belied by the above facts. True, Kickert escalated the incident with his retaliation on Pogoy. But it seems we have a lot of troublemakers on our team as well.
Stop with the victimhood narrative. Why on earth would anyone want to mess with a team that has Calvin Abueva (a very tough dude) or Blatche or any of our tough-looking players? That the Australian players went out of their way just to provoke these tough-looking dudes is just hard to believe. What's believable is that our players, thinking that they're playing at home, wanted to intimidate these young "deer-in-the-headlights" and when they started to fight back we threw everything at them. We've certainly mastered the art of bullying and claiming victimhood at the same time.
