If US did not side with the Marcoses, the Filipinos would have hanged them upside down in the gates of Malacanang like what the Italians to Mussolini and his mistress, the French did to their abusive king and queen, the Russians to the Romanovs, etc. US provided planes as escape vehicles for the Marcoses complete with air support so that the Philippine Air Force would not shoot them down.
