    Default [Poll / Survey] Correct way to deal with cancelled hotel reservations with downpayments due to bad weather


    Hi mga ka Istorya! Ngutana rko, ky dli mn ko suwito ani ug need ko ug expert opinions from both sa service provider side ug sa consumer side.

    Scenario: Naa mi booking reservation sa isa ka isla bakasyonanan dapit sa north Mindanao and since ni require cla downpayment, ni downpayment mi ug 50%(ang total reservation ky worth 2 rooms for 2 nights, with 4 pax each room).

    Since naay bagyo Paolo, wla mi nadaun larga ky wlay gpalarga, and even if naay nkalusot, i doubt if ni daun mi ky balud gyd kaau ang dagat based sa makita sa pier.

    Kani nga info g inform ngad2 sa management sa hotel/resort, pero forfeit na daw 2ng amo g downpayment nga reservation since ni incurr na dw cla pd ug loss if ila i refund.

    Sa amo place paingn sa isla, sea vessel ra ang pwd where wlay gpalarga. though paingn sa isla, naay flights pero gkan sa Cebu/elsewhere, means naa ra ghapon cla unta customer kung dli tungod sa amo reservation.

    a) SOP ba nga forfeit to nga reservation/downpayment namo?
    b) dpat ba mu refund or offer reschedule ang resort based sa na downpay nga amount?
    c) any other suggestion?

    from my experience, most hotels/resorts mo.forfeit njud ug reservations. but there are times, due to bad weather or other circumstances, SOME would agree to still accommodate the cust on a later date. but only if the place isn't peak season nya di dghan mangadto. usually this time kai dghan naman mobakasyon kai padung naman pasko, fully-booked na ang uban places kron.

    SOP since two nights imong reservation is u have to pay for the 1st night in full. the second night can be cancelled ra gyud. so technically ang 50% DP nimo is forfeited na gyud to. I agree with @Little_Mermaid88 there are others who would consider. depende ra gyud na sa inyong pakigstorya sa mga taga hotel. it would be best na you discuss this with the manager kai sila man maka decide ana.

    Did you book direct with the resort/hotel or thru hotel booking sites like agoda/booking.com? Kay kung thru booking sites, naa na silay cancellation policy per hotel so mag-depende ana imong ma-recover na money.

    If you booked direct with the hotel then you are at their mercy. Technically speaking, you are considered a no-show irregardless kung unsa pa ang circumstances why wa mo nadayon. However, agree ko atong nag-suggest na i-negotiate na lang ninyo sa tag-iya na i-book mo on a different date para at least di masayang inyong nagasto. Take note na this would depend kung musugot ang owner, kung evil jud siya, pwede sila mo say no and there's nothing you can do about it.

    Medyo malabo na nga mabawi pa to nimo inyong downpayment to be honest.

    I fully understand your side as the customer.
    Pero dapat pod sabton ang side sa service provider.

    Sa time nga gidawat nila ang imong booking with your downpayment, wala na sila nidawat og laing custormer on the same dates nimo. Gi-block na nila ang dates for you. Kung dili mo modayon, its only fair for them to take your deposit aron makabawe pod sila sa lost opportunity from other possible customers.

    from profits point of view, totally understandable gyd xa Boss. pero ky dli mn gd kung kmi ang dli mudayon, but tungod sa panahon wlay chance nga mka daun mi.

    same ra gd na nga usahay ang mga flights ma delay or ma cancel dli tungod ky gusto ra sa airlines manghasol ug tao pero tungod dli lng gyd physically possible na ang previously g promise nila nga sched either tungod pd sa panahon or tungod sa unsa pa nga force majeure. sa case sa airlines, unlimited daun ang reklamo sa mga pasahero bsan dli sayup sa airlines but ang airlines ang mangita paagi unsa nga dli kaay unpleasant sa side sa customers.

    sa kana nga comparison ang ako emphasis. pero if 100% profit lng ang kwentahon sa businesses, of course, taman sa madaginot, daginoton gyd ang kwarta para mkabawe, and sa kana nga case, even ang airlines pwd nila i adopt ang same nga thinking para dli cla ma lugi.

    if ako ang business owner in the future, dpat d.i ingn.ana ka ruthless, bahala g bagyo ang tbuok kalibotan, kung d ka mutunga, pasenxa

    haha. ok rmn ko ani. ang amount itself dli mn dako so no issues. ang ako lng is pg clarify based on unsa ang gnabuhat sa uban, whether ethical ba to or dli. more of a curiosity lng ni nga post rather than complaint
