He was just atrocious. His firing is not just about one move.
Let me list down the head scratching moves Phil made as an exectuive in NY.
1. He traded away Tyson Chandler for nothing. Chandler was their locker room leader, defensive anchor and he could at least gotten a lot more for him.
2. Hiring Derek Fisher. No prior coaching experience whatsoever.
3. Trading for Derrick Rose. He traded away Lopez,Calderon and Grant for an oft injured point guard who's not a fit for the triangle and whose gameplay doesnt fit with Porzingis and Melo.
4. He traded J.R. Smith and Shumpert for basically nothing.
5. He signed an oft injured and clearly out of his prime Joakim Noah to a 4 year 72 million contract. The worst contract in the NBA right now.
6. Giving Carmelo Anthony a no-trade clause and then alienating him later by saying that Melo would be better off playing for another team. Essentially bringing Melo's trade value down.
7. Alienating the face of the Knicks franchise Kristaps Porzingis by stating publicly that he was entertaining trade offers for him.
Phil Jackson had it coming. He should've been canned a long time ago. Blame also goes to James Dolan for not firing Phil earlier. Phil Jackson arguably is the greatest coach of all time but BOY OH BOY he is also one of the worst executives of all time.
I still love me some Phil Jackson but IMO he should just retire and stay retired before he tarnishes his legacy even more.
that's why i did not said he was a great team president... he surely has committed mistakes... pero ang main reason ngano gi-fire siya karon is because he wants to buyout Carmelo Anthony... which i think is a good move. karon nga gi-fire si phil, Carmelo will stay with the knicks, and it also serves as a warning sa mopuli ni phil, nga kung imong hilabtan si Carmelo, ikaw ang sunod... which is counterproductive in my opinion...
