Nice simplification bro.
I have two systems at home, one INTEL P4(first series) 1.7GHz w/ intel 845 mobo and one AMD Athlon XP 1.8GHz with Asus(sis chipset) mobo comparing the two my findings is AMD performs well in opening applications and booting up Windows XP and rendering in Photoshop CS and Adobe Premier.
I think both manufacturers are competitive, its just up to the user and the type of application you will be using your PC.

Correction. Intel's Dual Core still outperforms AMD's current offers.
The current top of the line DUAL Core Processor is the E6850.
AMD currently has no answer to the desktop Quad-Core of Intel.

In short: Intel is the current KING of the hill. PERIOD.
