I don't know how my tips or experiences would be useful to you since you're going to Canada and I'm in the US. Different countries, different rules. Ako lang tambag, get ready for hard times...struggles...tears...the first few years acclimating to a new country are so hard. But as long as you make a promise to yourself that you'll do whatever it takes to make it happen, whatever it is you want to happen...then you'll be fine.
